The IEEE is divided into Regions, most of which are in the USA. Region 8 covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Within IEEE Regions, there are Sections. The United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland (UKRI) Section is part of Region 8.
In any Section, Chapters may be formed which are related to the IEEE parent Society (e.g. Communications Society, Computer Society etc.). The UKRI Communications Chapter exists to promote communications events in the UK and RoI. It is therefore part of the UKRI Section of IEEE Region 8 and the Communications Society.

The Communications Society supports Chapters directly through the EAME Board. The IEEE supports Chapters through the Region 8 committee.
