The combination of array antennas with intelligent, adaptive signal processing is a powerful way of coping with time-varying environments and propagation. Adaptive antennas have come a long way since the early analogue interference cancellation loops, and the ever-increasing processing power gives greater and greater scope for smart antennas. The presentation will review some of the background and principles, and show some examples of applications to radar, sonar and communications.
