Title: Getting your head around business processes Speaker: Martyn Ould (Venice Consulting) Date: Thursday 14th September 2006 Time: 5:30pm ~ 7:00pm Venue: Room Roberts 508, Roberts Engineering Building, University College London, London WC1E 6BT, UK Maps: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/about-ucl/location/maps, https://www.grad.ucl.ac.uk/maps/index.pht?category_ID=6&location_ID=62 ABSTRACT: Organisations have many reasons today to examine how they work: to re-align themselves with their real business, to improve how they operate, to align their information systems with how they operate, to choose an organisational structure that is customer-oriented, and so on. A first step – and one that is traditionally poorly dealt with – is to decide what processes the organisation has in the first place, and how they are inter-related. Sounds simple and perhaps there should be a simple yet not simplistic answer – Martyn Ould will attempt to provide it. BIOGRAPHY: Martyn Ould read Mathematics at Cambridge but knew beforehand that the software industry was where he wanted to be. By chance a research project in the mid-1980s led him to examine how processes could be rigorously described and this led in turn to the development of his approach to Business Process Modelling, Riva, the first part of which he will be describing: the deduction of a ‘process architecture’ for an organisation. He worked for ICL, Logica, and Praxis, where he was Technical and Quality Director. In 1988 he left Deloitte (of which Praxis had become a part) to be an independent consultant. He lectures to post-graduate classes at Oxford University and has half a dozen textbooks to his name.
