Description of the Competitions

Micromouse Competition

The Micromouse contest is primarily an IEEE run student event. It is traditionally held at the Spring Regional IEEE Meetings. The Micro Mouse Contest is a technological competition dedicated to the creation of an automatic "machine" that could explore autonomously a labyrinth, reach its centre and eventually find the shortest path between the start and the end. he labyrinth's shape is square, with sides lengths of few meters and it is divided into square cells. A deeper analysis reveals depth of the project. It develops on various levels of knowledge that must be studied and shared among the group participants.
The Mouse should move, so a mechanical structure and an electronic feeding are needed.
The Mouse needs also a sensors system to feel the labyrinth walls and to avoid them; some sensors systems are available: ultrasounds, infrared rays, small cameras.
The Mouse must have some kind of artificial intelligence: software that could manage the hardware motion following the external perceptions and could decide a movement direction choosing from various free ways.

 Student Paper Contest

This competition offers undergraduate IEEE Student Member opportunities to exercise and improve both written and verbal communication skills.
Since the paper contest’s primary function is to improve the engineering student’s communicative skills, no Student should be discouraged from entering the contest due to a false requirement of technical sophistication.

Eligibility:

1. The entrant must be an undergraduate student at a school in the Region at which there is an IEEE Student Branch at the time of entry and presentation at the Branch contest.

2. A Student must complete and submit an application for membership in IEEE prior to entry in the Branch Contest.

3. An entrant may collaborate writing a paper with additional students.
