IEEE-802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee to hold 1st Asian Plenary Session in Singapore this March

March 13-18, 2011 members and observers of the IEEE-802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) will be coming from all over the globe to participate in a week-long Plenary Session held at the all new Marina Bay Sands Hotel right on the marina in downtown Singapore.  This will be the 1st IEEE-802 Plenary Session held in Asia or the Far East.  Expected attendance at this session will be 1,000-1,500 of the world’s top network engineers and designers, who work together on approximately 50 projects to create the consensus network standards of the future.  The session is open to all who wish to observe or participate in the process of standards creation, with the only requirements being that all attendees must register for the Session and pay the required fees, and to maintain a civil demeanor that is respectful of all other participants.  For more info on how to attend this plenary session please go to:  http://ieee802.facetoface-events.com/session/68

IEEE-802 LMSC has created and published the International Standards for Ethernet (802.3), Wireless LAN (802.11), Wireless MAN (802.16), and Bluetooth (802.15), which have enabled much of today’s high-speed network connectedness.  The LMSC Working Groups continue to advance new standards for many newer, faster, more reliable and more mobile technologies, and several auxiliary network support functions such as network management, co-existence, interoperation, Quality of Service, and virtual bridging.

Founded in February of 1980, IEEE-802 has been holding 3 week-long plenary sessions each year for 31 years.  A plenary Session is one in which all of the various Working Groups come together at a common venue for a full week in March, July, and November to allow for meaningful interactions and sharing of ideas among the Groups as they continue to develop and extend their individual Working Group standards.  IEEE-802 operates under the charter and leadership of the IEEE Standards Association, which manages all IEEE Standards Development Organizations (SDOs).  For info on IEEE Standards Association go to: http://standards.ieee.org/

The IEEE-802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee currently has 12 distinct Working Groups that are active in different technical areas.  Details of the focus, purpose, and projects for each Working Group are available on the IEEE-802 website at the following URL:  http://www.ieee802.org/

The registration fee for this session is:

If you are not able to register via the web for technical reasons, you must notify the Conference Organizers prior to the cutoff date, to receive the corresponding registration rate.
