Region 10 Chapter Activities

We have crossed 500 chapter mark in Region 10 with formation of 72 new chapters by the end of September 2010 this year. There are many in pipeline. This is a splendid performance by its volunteers, its sections and the Region 10. Following information I would like to share.

Most of our sections have formed new chapters in their sections, following are the sections where chapters have been formed this year. Some are in pipeline

ACT Section Karachi Section Shanghai Section
Bangalore Section Lahore Section Singapore Section
Bangladesh Section Macau Section Sri Lanka Section
Beijing Section Madras Section Taipei Section
alcutta Section Malaysia Section Thailand Section
Chengdu Section Nagoya Section Uttar Pradesh Section
Chengdu Section Nanjing Section Wuhan Section
Harbin Section New South Wales Section Xian Section
Hyderabad Section NewZealand Central Section
Islamabad Section Philippines Section

Chapters have also been formed in the countries belonging to Region 10 where there are no sections. These countries are

Presently the chapters in these countries will be directly under Region 10. Formation of IEEE Society/Council Chapters in such countries will give rise to IEEE activities in the Region and will bring more members and countries in the map of IEEE.

There has also been significant decline in number of inactive chapters in the Region, it is from 16% to less than 3%. This is in the direction to have zero inactive chapters in Region 10.

IEEE Society and Council membership connects you to the most exciting information, events and people in your technical field. And a chapter is your local link to the valuable resources available from the IEEE and the 38 IEEE Technical Societies and 7 Technical Councils. An established and active chapter serves the technical need of a professional member in a better way. Active chapters also help in arresting fluctuation in memberships.

Detailed information for efficient and effective management of chapters in the sections have been provided on Region 10 website, let us make use of those information to bring more benefits for our members.

The numbers of chapters are rising in various sections of our region, more than 50% of our sections are having 5+ chapters and more than 25% chapters are having 10+ chapters. I had proposed to induct a chapter promotion volunteer in each section to manage this growth, only a few sections have responded. I further request you to nominate a chapter promotion volunteer in your section and convey his name and email id. This will help us in managing chapters well.

As Regional Chapter Coordinator, I would like to extend all possible help and support making chapters vibrant in your section and in Region 10. If you have any suggestion for the improvement of chapter activities in Region 10, kindly send we will by happy to incorporate.

Best Regards,

(16.10.2010)

IEEE Region 10 has seen a moderate growth in its chapter activities. With help of various section volunteers we could achieve 8% growth rate and total number of chapters and joint chapters in Region 10 has gone to 440. In 2009, 33 new chapters were formed, it was 18% up from the previous year.

Efforts were made to contact each section to promote chapter activities in Region 10. Section Chairs were provided detailed information on chapters for efficient and effective management of their chapters. The data regarding inactive chapters were also made available to respective sections for taking timely actions.

Chapter activities are very important for IEEE as it truly serves its members for their professional and technical needs. A Society/Technical Council Chapter, which is the technical subunit of one or more IEEE Sections, is your local link to the valuable resources available from the IEEE and the 38 IEEE Technical Societies and 7 Technical Councils. An established and active chapter serves the technical need of a professional member in a better way. Active chapters also help in arresting fluctuation in memberships.

We plan to achieve a growth of 15% in 2010. I am sure with your interest and active participation we can achieve. I have prepared following details for each section to enable them in optimizing chapter activities in their section. The details were circulated in 2010 R10 meet at Cebu, the same can also be find at our website for ready reference.

Chapter activity page on R10 website has also been updated with more links on available resources.

I request you to make use of these information to get more benefits for members in your section. I would like to continue the two prong approach this year also as given below.

The numbers of chapters are rising in various section of our region, more than 50% of our sections are having 5+ chapters and more than 25% chapters are having 10+ chapters. I had proposed to induct a chapter promotion volunteer in each section to manage this growth, only a few sections responded. We solicit your support and efforts in achieving these tasks. Please take necessary steps in rejuvenating inactive chapters in your section, if any.

As Regional Chapter Coordinator, I would like to extend all possible help and support in your endeavour. We will also appreciate your suggestions for the improvement of chapter activities in Region 10.
