The Sections of the North Carolina Council (Central, Charlotte, Eastern, and
Western) have had a busy year.  Since August most of the Sections have had
several meetings.  Several sections are suffering in attendance due to
company lay-offs and transfers. 

The Eastern Section once again is sponsoring the North Carolina Symposium
and Exhibition, now in its 45th year.    NCSE is being run as a one-day
seminar/workshop in Raleigh with the topic "Restructuring the Electric
Utility Industry … How Sweet Is It?"   More information about the symposium
can be found at https://www.rtpnet.org/~ieee/ncse.  The North Carolina
Council Executive Committee will meet during the symposium for our fall meeting.

The NC Council Leadership Development project is under development.  The
presentation for a section meeting, intended to interest potential future
leaders, is almost complete.  Charles Lord and Silvia Middleton will travel
to each section and make this presentation, based on the Leadership
Development Workshop given at the Region level.  The second phase, an
in-depth overnight leadership development workshop, is under development.
Its first offering is planned for the spring of 1999 in North Carolina.  The
two phases of this leadership development project are intended for export
across Region 3 when fully developed.

All Sections have a web page, as does the Council.
