The Executive Committee of the section has planned meeting that has provided technical and personal information to the Sections membership. In the past year we have had programs that have ranged from plant tours to technical session. One of the best session held was on Patents and Intelligent Property. This session was a joint meeting with our Student Section at North Carolina A&T State University. In this session there was a presentation by section members on basic patent law followed by a round table discussion with current patent holders from our section. The CNC Section awarded three $350 scholarships to students at North Carolina A&T SU as part of its on going program of supporting student activities. The Student Chapter at North Carolina A&T State University Executive Board, Penda Dickey, President. is to be commended for its growth and its achievements on the current year. The Student Chapter has been selected to receive the 1998 RAB Student Branch Membership Growth Award. Additionally the chapter is participating in the robot competition this year in spite of all the obstacles put in their path. Central North Carolina Section has had three members advance to senior member status in the past year. The membership of the section has remained steady with the only true growth happening in the student section. The majority of the sections membership remains to be retired members from local industry. As part on going activities the Central North Carolina Section is joining with the Piedmont Council of Engineering and Technical Societies (PCETS) in a program for the National Engineering Week 2000. The Central North Section is working on a program to promote engineering in pre-college education (K-12). PCETS is acting as a coordinating body for member organization wishing to have an activity during Engineering Week 2000. Central North Carolina section is currently looking for another organization to partner with in this activity. The Executive Committee of the Central North Carolina Section has agreed to undertake the North Carolina Symposium and Exposition for the Year 2000. Our goal is to have a program that will present materials to both the hardware and software engineer. The bylaws of the section have been updated to change our year from July through June to January to December. The membership has approved the change. In a special election the current officers of the section have been elected to serve until December 1999. Chip Dawson, CPIM MCP IEEE Central North Carolina Section Chair
