Legister, Jamaica Section Chair 1. The New Section Executive took office in July 1998. We have had a productive period since then satisfying all reporting requirements of headquarters. 2. The Communications Society Chapter was registered late 1998 and petition is in Progress for registration of a Computer Society and Power Society Chapters. 3. Only one Student Branch exist, that of the University of Technology Jamaica but a conservative effort is being made to establish a second Student Branch at the University of the West Indies, Mona. We are pursuing this vigorously. 4. Late last year we host a Public Forum on " Deregulation of Telecommunications - Its implications in Jamaica" which was well attended. It created a public awareness of a proposed Telecommunications Policy Document aimed at addressing the current telecommunication's monopoly among other issues in Jamaica. A similar forum is planned for the interpretation of the policies once the policy document is released. 5. Senior Membership has increased by two since January 1999. We expect to increase this number to Five before end of June 1999. 6. All is in place for the launch of our web site later today (March 24, 1999) at URL: https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/Jamaica 7. JamCon2000 is planned for August 11-13, 2000 at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Call For Papers, Registration Form and Hotel information will be available at Southeastcon '99. A JamCon2000 report will be presented by Area 9 Chair, Dennis Hartley. The section will continue with its planned activities for 1999, all aimed at enhancing The Electro-technology profession and will involve the community, students and the general IEEE membership. .....................
