From: William B. Harrison [wharri@bellsouth.net] Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 1999 6:48 AM To: r3-excom1999 Cc: Kathy H. Drevik; John Conrad; Steve Bryant Subject: MDC REPORT TO SPRING EXCOM MEETING MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE (MDC) REPORT TO SPRING 1999 EXCOM MEETING, Lexington, KY, March 27, 1999 Kathy Drevik and Bill Harrison represented the Region 3 MD Committee at the MD Retreat/Meeting in Piscataway. Kathy was the Region 3 delegate and Bill took part on the program. We had an opportunity to report on our project activities and status at the MD retreat to MD chairs of sections and chapters from around the IEEE world. The Power Engineering Society agreed to provide financial support; plus, they want to be involved with our project in working on PES' own corporate relations goals. John Pape, Communications Society staff person, agreed to prepare notes from a presentation by Jan McInnis at the MD meeting in Piscataway. Many of Jan's ideas and approach could be used as training/motivational tools and applied directly to our corporate relations efforts. Region 5 and Region 7 want to be involved in the corporate relations project. They would like to be positioned to be early implementers after we report to Sections Congress. They are willing to come to meetings and plan budgets for corporate relations activities in 2000. Other entities and IEEE HQ departments are watching with interest and promise to support us with staff time and in-kind support (like helping produce brochures & materials). We plan to ask the IEEE Communications Department, for example, to turn the "What is the IEEE?" handout into a nice brochure we can use as a leave-behind for corporate visits. Region 8 originally drafted that material and it was sent to us by the IEEE Communications Department. The Atlanta Section approved financial support of the Region 3 Corporate Relations Pilot Project for calendar year 1999 and for the year 2000, assuming we are successful in 1999. We are looking into the possibility of delivering our pilot study report to Sections Congress on a CD. We have contacted an Atlanta firm that does computer based training for distribution on the web and on CD. They have studios and all the equipment and software to produce a professional training CD. We will explore the feasibility of doing a high quality "pilot CD" for our SC 99 report and then updating and expanding it if we get a go ahead to expand the project to other regions. Materials prepared by the Region 3 MD Committee in Birmingham, and presented in Piscataway, are available for viewing on the MD Corporate Relations Project Web Site at https://ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/mdc/cr/.
