Mohammed, Miami Section Chairman 1. We had quite an active year and the section officers were re-elected for another year starting January 1, 1999. The section submitted all its reports to headquarters in time. All seven society chapters of the Miami section are active and had at least two activities. We are still looking for chairman of the Engineering Management Society Chapter. 2. This year the Miami Section is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will receive a special banner for Director Dale Caston in April during the upcoming section meeting on April 9th, 1999. 3. From January 1, 1999 to present, we already had six activities including the engineers week picnic, a Y2K issues presentations joined with Broward and Palm Beach Section, a lecture on IEC Standards and Application Guide. Also, the PES, EMBS and Communication Society chapters had separate lecture meetings with invited speakers and good attendance. The student activities had also several activities of their own under the guidance of the section. 4. We are planning several activities before summer including three lecture meetings, awards meeting a tutorial and a student activity. 5. During 1998, the Miami section reported a total of 28 total technical, social and administrative activities conducted by the section and its society chapters. 6. The Miami section sponsored along with NASA, State of Florida as well as several companies and organizations in the Miami area, a summer program technical competitions involving Junior High and High School students. Small dollar awards, certificates and congratulation letters were given to 1st, 2nd, and 3ed place winners of three different competitions. These technical projects included posters, models and essays. The section provided a total of $200.00 for these awards. The letters and certificates featured the IEEE Miami section's name and the new IEEE logo with the networking the world slogan. This will be repeated again this year. 7. The section will continue its participation in more activities that will enhance the electrical and computer engineering profession as well as activities that involve the community, students and deal with issues of concern to the membership.
