IEEE Orlando Section Annual Report April 1998 through March 1999

 

April 1998:

The 9th Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Computing was held in the Delta Orlando Resort on March 30 through April 3.

The April XCOM meeting was held on April 7 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

The AP/MTT Chapter held a meeting at the University of Central Florida on April 22 where a talk entitled "Neural Beamforming and Array Antennas" was presented by Dr. Hugh Southall of the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Southeastcon ‘98 was held in the Orlando Airport Hyatt Regency on April 24 through April 26.

May 1998:

The May XCOM meeting was held on May 5 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

The Consultant’s Network held a networking meeting at the Orlando Public Library on May 12.

June 1998:

The June XCOM meeting was held on June 2 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

The Consultant’s Network held a meeting at the Orlando Public Library on June 9 where a talk entitled "Planned Innovation" was presented by Mr. R. Trezevant Wigfall.

The annual Orlando Section Picnic was held on June 27 at Lake Claire Park at the University of Central Florida.

July 1998:

No activities

August 1998:

The August XCOM meeting was held on August 4 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building. The newly elected officers were: Chairman - Dr. Christos Christodoulou, Vice Chair - Dr. Al Berg, Treasurer - Dr. Issa Batarseh, Secretary - Dr. Gerald Holst. Dr. Christodoulou announced that he was leaving the Orlando Area and passed the chairmanship to Dr. Berg, leaving the Vice Chair position vacant..

The Consultant’s Network held a networking meeting at the Orlando Public Library on August 11.

September 1998:

The September XCOM meeting was held on September 1 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

The Consultant’s Network held a meeting at the Orlando Public Library on September 8 where Mr. Luciano Castro described his consulting practice.

The Power Engineering Society held a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Orlando North on September 9.

October 1998:

The annual Orlando Section Splash Bash was held at Wet & Wild on October 3.

The October XCOM meeting was held on October 6 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

The Consultant’s Network held a networking meeting at the Orlando Public Library on October 13.

The Power Engineering Society held a tour of the Lucent Technologies Facility in Orlando on October 13.

November 1998:

The November XCOM meeting was held on November 3 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

Supercomputing ‘98 was held in the Orange County Convention Center on November 7 through November 13.

The Consultant’s Network held a networking meeting at the Orlando Public Library on November 10.

 

 

 

December 1998:

The December XCOM meeting was held on December 1 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

LEOS ‘98 was held at the Walt Disney Swan Hotel on December 1 through December 4.

The Communications/Signal Processing Chapter held a meeting at RSI Baseband Technologies on December 8 where a talk entitled "Introduction to Asynchronous Transfer Mode Networking" was presented by Dr. Al Berg.

January 1999:

The January XCOM meeting was held on January 5 in the University of Central Florida Engineering Building.

The Consultant’s Network held a networking meeting at the Orlando Public Library on January 12.

February 1999:

The annual Orlando Section Awards Banquet was held at the 4th Fighter Group Restaurant on February 20.

The Simulation, Robotics and Controls Chapter held a meeting at the University of Central Florida on February 24 where a talk entitled "Nonlinear Learning Control and its Applications" was presented by Dr. Qu.

March 1999:

The XCOM and the AES Chapter held a joint meeting at the Orlando Public Library on March 16 where a talk entitled "Your Name In Print: How to be a Published Author" was presented by Dr. Gerald Holst.

The Power Engineering/Industry Applications/Power Electronics Chapter presented a Power Systems Automation Seminar Series. The seminars included "Building and Commercial Automation" on March 2; "Distribution Automation" on March 9; "Substation Automation" on March 16; and "SCADA/EMS" on March 23.
