The Center is only about 2 years old and is adjacent to Lake Hartwell and the 18 hole Walker Course. IEEE members from industry and Clemson toured the facility 3/26/99 and met with the Center's conference Director. The Center should fit our needs quite well and probably be larger than we need for the whole conference. It contains an auditorium that holds 107 and a ballroom that will hold 425. With these two rooms occupied there are still 10 other rooms available, some of which can be configured for up to 150. A restaurant and a tavern are also housed in the Center. The Center can do all our catering and even do our name tags. The Director reserved the entire Center and adjacent 89 room hotel (just opened) for us. Clemson also has a Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Ramada Inn, Comfort Inn, Days Inn & Sleep Inn. Local rooms should not be a problem, but we will work toward finding the best way to house the balance of the conference. Rates currently look to run lower than any recent SEcon. Clemson has a local transportation system to help us get from these hotels to the Center. My goal for the weekend is strictly to gather information from this conference. Information needs include conference organizing committee structure, meeting room needs, catering needs, registration specifics & web site information. I really like the registration form and web site and would like to use something similar. We have held a few informal meetings on organizing the conference. For our next meeting we will use the Lexington organizing structure to create our own. We can then begin to assign areas of responsibility and tasks. Future challenges include transportation (hotel to Center & airport to hotel), lodging (past 89 rooms) & cost containment (main areas are catering, meeting space & printing/mailing). Preliminary work has been done in these areas. Respectfully submitted Nick Pasquerilla, PE n.pasquerilla@ieee.org (Sumitted by Mark Stokes)
