The section presented two IEEE-AMP scholarships to two students for their academic achievement. Three section members were recognized for their outstanding services and accomplishments. The membership remains steady. Two members advance to senior member status. 1. Section meetings Eight sections meetings were held during the year. The topics included technical presentations, tours, awards, and the election of the section officers. January 27, 1999, "Tour of RJR Whitaker Park." March 24, 1998, William Marotz and Tom Roth, Forsyth Technical Community College (FTCC), "Tour of FTCC's Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology Facility." April 28, 1998, "Tour of US Airways/Saber Information Technology Facility." May 26, 1998, Daniel Lopez Janariz, Medical School, Wake Forest University, "Java, the language behind marketing." September 22, 1998, Chris Whitley, Gilbarco, "Recent Technology Changes in Charge Card Purchase." October 27, 1998, "Election of 1999 Section Offices"; "Professional Activities Report," Greg Lisle, Section PACE Chair; "Region 3 & IEEE - USA Plans for 1999," Dick Riddle, Region 3 Director - Elect. November 19, 1998, "Section's 1998 Outstanding Award Presentation" by P. Santago, Section Award and Recognition Chair, and "Tour of the Wake Forest Medical Center's Power Plant." 2. Scholarship Two IEEE-AMP scholarships were awarded to Joshua Brown and Joshua Robertson of Forsyth Technical Community College on March 3, 1998. The students were selected based on their academic achievements and each received $250 scholarship. The section also applied to AMP and was granted additional $500 for the 1999 scholarships. 3. Awards The section presented the 1998 awards to: Outstanding Service Award - Monroe J. Cowan Outstanding Engineering Award - Lyle Greg Lisle Outstanding Educator Educator -Thomas M. Roth, Jr. 4.
