Region 3 Conference Committee Report

Nashville, TN - December 4, 1999

Jim Howard-Chair

During our next conference committee meeting, which was held on Saturday, December 4, 1999, in addition to our normal agenda we were introduced to Tom Klote, from IEEE Conferences Services. Tom, who is working out of the Orlando, Florida area, will be available to assist all conference organizers in the southeast with their future conferences.. Also, at this meeting we discussed plans for the future SoutheastCon's, Southcon's and other Region conferences. Sections interested in bidding on future SoutheastCon's should contact the Conference Committee Chair Jim Howard at J.Howard@ieee.org, or the Vice-Chair, Charles Lord at c.j.lord@ieee.org regarding the schedule for bid processing, as well as assistance if needed.

Southcon/99

Southcon/99 was held in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday, April 13, 1999 through Thursday, April 15, 1999 at the Gwinnett Convention Center. For the first time ever, the show was co-located with the SMTA (Surface Mount Technology Association) Atlanta Chapter. Southcon is the Southeast's largest Electro-Technology show and is normally held once a year in Region 3. The sponsors, IEEE Region 3, IEEE Florida Council, and the Electronic Representatives Association (ERA) are planned special events for this shows return to Atlanta, and they were will received

Southcon/00

Southcon/00 was originally scheduled for Raleigh, but due to problems locating a facility to house the show, the venue was changed to Orlando, Fla. For 2000.. It will be located at the Expo Center in downtown Orlando for the first time, and all indications are that this should be a great new venue for the show. Also for the first time in Southcon's history, IEEE Conferences Services is the contractor for the show. As of November 31, 1999 over 83 booths had been sold for the show.

SoutheastCon/99

The very successful SoutheastCon/99 is now history and the only items remaining to finalize the conference is the submission of the final budget to headquarters and the final report..

SoutheastCon/00

George Cook, the SEC/00 General Chair and his committee are working on all the many details for the upcoming conference. We had the opportunity to tour the conference hotel Saturday, which is located here in Nashville. They conference budget has been approved by the Region Director and Conference Committee chair, as will as IEEE headquarters.
