From sah03@cho.litton-marine.com Thu Dec 2 09:42:02 1999 Date: Thu, 2 Dec 1999 10:32:02 -0600 From: Sean Haynes Reply-To: s.a.haynes@ieee.org To: "Mailing List, Region 3 Excom" Subject: GOLD Report This has been a very interesting year for GOLD in Region 3. My main goal this year was to inform and train the sections on how to startup and maintain a GOLD Affinity Group. To accomplish this task, I put together a presentation that was shown at the Professional Develepment Conference and used as part of RAB GOLD presentation (which I helped facilitate) at Section's Congress. In order to get sections active in GOLD, I strongly advertised the Professional Development Conference in Dallas, TX. As a member of the GOLD Subcommittee for the conference, I was in charge of publicity, mentoring and social events. I put together an overview of the conference that was shown at all of the Regional Meetings, including Region 3's in Lexington, KY. I am happy to report that the Region 3 sections are beginning to form Affinity Groups, including, most recently, Sonya Hutchinson in Huntsville Section. I attended the RAB GOLD meeting in February in Newark, NJ, SoutheastCON in Lexington, KY, the Professional Development Conference in Dallas, TX, and Section's Congress in Minneapolis, MN as the Region 3 GOLD Representative. In 2000, I have been named as Chair of the PDC 2000 GOLD Subcommittee. As Chair of the subcommitee, I am tasked with increasing GOLD participation at the conference. To accomplish this task, I am going to need increased support from Region and Sections as well as private enterprise. We are also going to increase international GOLD participation. The GOLD program at the PDC is still the best way to get GOLD members involved with local and regional activities. Other tasks that I would like to accomplish in 2000 are: - GOLD presentation during Region 3 Leader's Training at SEC'00. - Directed mailing to potential GOLD membership highlighting: - The formation of GOLD Affinity Groups. - The PDC'00 in Scottsdale. - Names/Contacts of local/regional/RAB GOLD leaders. From the feedback that I have gotten from Region 3 Section GOLD Representatives at the PDC and SC, I think that GOLD in Region 3 is beginning to move in the right direction. With continued education and programs, we should be to continue to increase participation. -- +--------------------------------+---------------------------+ | Sean A. R.
