Report to Region 3
IEEE North Carolina Council

Charles J. Lord, P.E., Chair
29 January 2000

The NC Council looks forward to an active 2000 with a lot of great activities going on.

We will have two council-sponsored conferences this year, TLC 2000 on May 6 in Cary, and NCSE 2000 in September.  TLC 2000, or Technological Literacy Counts, is a workshop for educators and volunteer engineers to come up with and identify networks, tools, and resources for teaching pre-engineering to kids in K-12.  Co-sponsored by SAS and IEEE-USA, this will be an exciting event.  Our other conference, the 46th North Carolina Symposium and Exhibition, will be a series of professional and technical topics in Greensboro.

All five sections in NC are reporting activity; however, all three sub-sections are inactive.  A priority for 2000-1 will be to re-vitalize these subsections or come up with an alternative way of supporting the members in these geographically isolated areas.

The council also plans to hold a leadership workshop in late 2000 or beginning of 2001 for new section officers.  We are working with the R3 Leadership Development Committee to pass along the lessons learned from our pilot leadership development retreat in Asheville last December.

Our officers for 2000-1 are:

Chair: Charles Lord
Vice Chair: Silvia Middleton
Secretary: Chip Dawson
Treasurer: Natalie Sayles
