From obrien_em@Mercer.EDU Thu Apr 6 20:18:23 2000 Date: Thu, 06 Apr 2000 20:02:04 -0400 From: obrien_em To: d.green@ieee.org Cc: sec-r03@ieee.or, r3-excom2000@ieee.org Subject: Area 3 report Area 3 Report to Region 3 The sections continue to be active. Each section is meeting regularly with its members. Education seems to be a focus. The Central Georgia section continues to sponsor Future Scientists of America at a local elementary school. The Savannah section is actively mentoring local pre-college students. E-conferencing is an effective means of communication by which the area has been conduction some of it business. It is expected to use even more extensively in the future. Getting members more active has been a recurring theme. One sections executive committee has agreed to contact members just before meetings to give a personal invitation. One particular meeting had the attendance dramatically increase due to this type of personal attention. Communication between the sections to work on common problems is focus of the area as is the needs of individual members. Submitted By: Edward M. O'Brien Chair, Area 3 April 6, 2000
