From jab02@CHO.litton-marine.com Fri Mar 31 15:39:23 2000 Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2000 16:36:02 -0500 From: Joseph A. Berman To: Grace Giras , d.green@ieee.org Subject: Re: Region 3 Meetings, Agendas, Requests (reminder) Central Virginia Section Report to Region 3 - 31 March, 2000 The officers for the Central Virginia Section are: Chair: Joe Berman, Vice Chair: vacant, Secretary/Treasurer: Grace Giras, PACE: Jim Thurber, GOLD: vacant, Newsletter, Past Chair and Email Coordinator: Sean Haynes, and Web Site Coordinator: Mike Martin. Grace will be representing the Central Virginia Section at SouthEastCon. The section meetings since last year have included the following: June Annual meeting with elections September GOLD picnic October Fuel Cell Development - Automobile applications November Tour of Litton Marine Systems January National Ground Intelligence Center overview February Engineers' Week Banquet - Smart Highway Project at Virginia Tech March Financial Planning The section has taken the initiative to start a GOLD Affiliate Group. More signatures are needed to make this official. Monthly GOLD socials have been held since October. The section has also started signups for a Computer Chapter. Again, more signatures are needed. Section's Congress was attended by Joe Berman, Grace Giras, and Sean Haynes. Joe and Grace attended as Section Representatives and Sean represented Region 3 GOLD. The section newsletter has a new format. The permit has been moved to Charlottesville, which allows for automated sorting at the distribution center. The mailing times have been reduced and so has the cost. The total changes that have been made are paying for the CASS certified software that is required for the automation. The sections would be better served if IEEE Corporate would provide this service, but after a few months, the return rate is less than 1% on undeliverable mail.
