From ieee@rtpnet02.rtpnet.org Thu Mar 30 22:21:38 2000 Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 16:51:18 -0500 (EST) From: Charles Lord To: Dave Green Cc: r3-excom2000@ieee.org Subject: Conference Committee Report Progress is continuing on making SoutheastCon 2000 and Southcon 2000 great successes. SoutheastCon 2000 will be held April 7-9 in Nashville, which I certainly hope you know by now! George Cook and his committee have worked hard to make this a fruitful and enjoyable experience for all. Southcon 2000 will be held May 23-25 at the Orlando Expo Center, which is in downtown Orlando. Special features planned for this year include an electric venhicle exhibit, robot exhibition, and a welcome reception Wednesday evening to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this great event. For more info, refer to the Region 3 newsletter or https://www.southcon.com. Jamcom 2000, in beautiful Ocho Rios, Jamaica, will be August 11-13. For more information see their web page at https://ewh.ieee.org/r3/jamaica/announce.html. Top challenges for our committee this year will be to: 1) Assist the SoutheastCon 2001 and 2002 committees 2) Solicit other sections to bid for 2003 and beyond 3) Complete and distribute the SoutheastCon manual These are in addition to the other goals that we listed in January. Our committee will have an action item for the Region Committee caucus to accept the bid of the Columbia Section for SoutheastCon 2002. The Excom has already acted on this item, so no discussion will be needed 4/1/2000. I have asked Bill Ratcliff, Ad-Hoc E-conferencing Committee Chair, to join our committee. As e-conf is an ad-hoc committee, I do not believe this to be a bylaw change issue. However, I feel it important that the e-conferencing committee to work closely with the conference committee to investigate and promote possible electronic collaboration and meeting technologies with which we may better serve our membership. As I already serve on Bill's committee, this should provide some good synergy between the groups. Charles J. Lord, PE R3 Conference Committee Chair c.j.lord@ieee.org
