From jandd3133@juno.com Sat Apr 1 16:23:09 2000 Date: Sat, 1 Apr 2000 17:06:22 -0500 From: Jim Howard To: r3-excom2000@ieee.org Cc: jmhoward@tecoenergy.com Subject: Director Elect's Report Director-Elect's Report Region 3 Executive Committee Meeting Saturday, April 1, 2000 (E-Conference) j.howard@ieee.org Chapters Retreat The first annual Chapters Retreat was held in New Orleans on February 7-9,2000, immediately before the IEEE Board Series. This retreat was organized by TAB and every Society and Region was invited to send representatives (Chapter Coordinators, etc.) to the meeting. All ten regions had representatives as well as many of the Societies. Many of the Societies shared the many things they do to support their Chapters as well as sharing ideas for enhance and/or additional support. The Societies are having a difficult time getting the word out to their Chapter Officers about the many things they have to offer. They also rely heavily on RAB and the Sections to keep them informed as to the identity of the Officers of the Chapters. This information is included in the Annual Reports the Section are required to report to IEEE at the beginning of each year. This committee is considering and recommending that the Chapters Retreat be combined with the Membership Development Retreat to reduce costs and travel, as many of the items are included in both retreats. Section/Chapter Rejuvenation Committee The Rejuvenation Committee is a RAB Committee organized to address Section and Chapters in each Region that are considered delinquent. The lack of filing of reports, or the lack of holding meetings are indicators of these type Sections and Chapters. As a first step, the committee has assigned each committee member to each Region's delinquent Sections. In Region 3 I have been asked to address the following three Sections: Central Savannah River, Tri-Cities, and Middle Tennessee. The IEEE Board, at its February meeting, provided this committee with $16.5K to support the committees actives. Our strategies include funds for mailing and producing newsletters, 2 per section, as well as supporting meeting for the Section, again 2 per Section. The committee hopes to address Chapters once we have finalized the Sections and then move on to the Subsections. The next committee meeting, will be a conference call on Tuesday, April 4 and we are planning a face-to-face meeting at the June IEEE Board Series in Vancouver. If you have suggestions or are willing to assist with getting these Region 3 Sections back up and active, please send an email to j.howard@ieee.org. Regional Conference Committee The Regional Conference Committee normally meets at each IEEE Board Series and reviews the current status of Regional Conferences. As the Region 3 Representative, I attend these meetings and report on the status of our conferences. The review includes such items as whether the conference has had its budget approved, if it is past due on closing of the conference financial reports, or if the conference requires a full audit. We also get reports on the various programs available for conferences such as cooperative displays, FREE contract reviews from IEEE Headquarters, etc.
