From walcott@engr.uky.edu Thu Mar 30 13:57:54 2000 Date: Thu, 30 Mar 2000 14:51:30 -0500 From: Bruce L. Walcott To: EXCOM R3 Subject: RSAC Report The SAC (student activities committee) wishes to report that a variety of activities are planned for next week's Southeastcon '00 conference in Nashville, TN. The host student branch at Tennessee Tech University is led by on the student side by Byron Young aptly mentored by faculty member Jeffery Austen. Both Byron and Jeffery deserve our thanks for the many hours they have put forth (and have yet to go). This year's hardware contest is entitled the Y2K software bug. The object is for the autonomous vehicle to find compliant and defective receptacles and deposit a ball in them. The defective receptacles are more difficult to locate and are worth more points. This year's contest will see the return of two vehicles competing simultaneously similar to the VaTech contest of 3 years ago. Complete details are located at the following URL: https://www.tntech.edu/www/life/orgs/ieee/secon/intro.html Other activities include a student paper contest: https://www.tntech.edu/www/life/orgs/ieee/secon/paper.html a software competition: https://www.tntech.edu/www/life/orgs/ieee/secon/software.html and a T-shirt competition: https://www.tntech.edu/www/life/orgs/ieee/secon/tshirt.html Continuing from Southeastcon '99, Tennessee Tech will also hold a job fair for interested students. Details can be found at: https://www.tntech.edu/www/life/orgs/ieee/secon/ While the host school has decided not to hold a formal web page competition at Southeastcon, the SAC committee decided to not to cancel the international competition between the 10 IEEE regions. Rules for this competition are in the revision process and will be distributed at Southeastcon. The deadline for entry is May 15th RSAC will therefore hold a Region 3 web page contest using these rules separate from Southeastcon. Since web contests are inherently remote, participation can occur after Southeastcon. Three judges will be secured and the top 3 entries will receive recognition at Southeastcon 2001 with the winner forwarded to the international SAC Web Page Competition. ______________________________________________________________________ Dr. Bruce L.
