Looking back at the year 2000 and Dick Riddle's first as Regional
Director, two important events standout.  One occurred in January when
the first ever Region Executive Committee meeting was held through
e-conference.  This was a successful venture that broke new ground
plus it was a time saver for the participants and economical for our
region.  The Strategic Planning Committee and other committees like
Communications are commended for paving the way by having earlier
e-conference meetings.  Dave Green as facilitator along with Bill
Ratclift and Charles Lord played important roles that made this have a
favorable outcome.  To all these and to each of the Region 3 Executive
Committee members who participated in the e-conference our hats are
off for a job well done.

The second event is one currently happening, that is the Region
electronic Newsletter.  To my knowledge, this is the first in any
region.  The jury is still out on its success, but by early
impressions, the electronic newsletter will achieve its goal of
getting the information out quickly and have cost savings to our
Region.  It is expected that other regions will follow our lead.  Dick
Riddle, we thank you for your leadership in promoting these programs
and expect they will have continued success in future years.

This year as Past Director, I have served as mentor for the Finance
Committee.  Charles Hickman, Finance Committee Chair and Treasurer,
has monitored the budget, paid the bills and has the Region in good
financial order in his usual efficient manner.  Finally, two
reminders; first, be sure to vote in the IEEE election and second,
this is the time to renew your membership which can be done on the
internet.
