March 20, 2001 Area 3 Report Area 3 consists of the Atlanta section, the Central Georgia Section and the Savannah Section. An e- conference was held last week January to disseminate information regarding the Jan. e-conference of the region and to discuss areas of common concern, such as increasing the senior membership. The area has had previous e - conferences and it seems to be a good way to get the people together for a group discussions which would other wise only happen during Southeast Conf. A joint meeting was planned between the Savannah Section and the Central Georgia during a previous e-conf. It was held this past November. The Atlanta section is doing well with a larger turn over in its officers. It has an active web page and has its section newsletter up and running. A spring banquet is planned in April as is a section-wide meeting to get an overview of Georgia's DOT Advanced Transportation Management System. The Savannah section continues to hold monthly meetings and tours. The past slate of officer was re-elected for another year. The are active with the student IEEE branch at Savannah State University. The section plans to host an IAS Society Conference in the near future. The Central Georgia Section's officers are also continuing form last year for the most part. Some new faces are starting to come up through the ranks. The section continues to have a monthly newsletter that is distributed to the membership informing them of upcoming meetings. The section has sponsored a Future Scientists and Engineers of America with great success for the last three years. The local student section at Mercer University seems to be revived this year and more interaction between the student branch and the section is in the planning stage. Respectfully submitted Edward M.
