Florida West Coast Section Section Report Section 2001/2002 Officers: Chairman - Quang Tang, q.tang@ieee.org Vice Chairman - John Twitchell, PE, j.twitchell@ieee.org Secretary - Jules Joslow, jjoslowemi@aol.com Treasurer - John Conrad, john.conrad@ieee.org Activities: Florida West Coast Section has shown a tremendous success for year 2000 with the following activities: 1. Successfully hosted the Industrial & Commercial Power Systems (I&CPS) 2000 Technical Conference, 2. Held four (4) Section Meetings, 3. Held thirty two (32) Chapters Meetings, 4. Held two (2) Major Banquets - Awards and Engineers Week Banquets, 5. Formed and run a successful Life Member Chapter, 6. Supported and run a successful Teacher In-Service Series Program, 7. Submitted bid to host the IEEE Sections Congress 2005, 8. Distributed Section Newsletters electronically to members. Major accomplishments are I&CPS Technical Conference, Life Member Chapter, Teacher In-Service Series, electronics Newsletters distribution to members, and bid submittal to host Sections Congress 2005. The Section has made over $7,000 in surplus from I&CPS Conference. Life Member Chapter is up and running with planned three to four meetings annually. Teacher In-Service Series Program received positive feedback from local high school teachers. The results from first two projects have shown that 97% of teachers agreed to programs increased their technical knowledge and 100% would definitely apply the concepts learned from the programs in their classroom instruction. Members with email addresses have been received electronics newsletters a week prior to receiving the hard copies. 2005 Section Congress selection committee has narrowed down to two cities, Tampa and Tokyo. We are ready and will make every effort to bring the event to Tampa Bay area. In February 2001, Florida West Coast Section has joined three other societies, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Association of Facility Engineers (AFE), and Society of Logistic Engineers (SOLE), in providing an excellent banquet during the 2001 National Engineers Week. Goals: 1. To continue supporting Teacher In-Service Series Program. 2. To elevate 40 Senior Members in year 2001. 3. Each Chapter will hold at least one seminar that provides Continued Education Units (CEU) to members. This goal will help our PE members maintaining their certification. 4. To host a successful Substation Committee Annual Meeting, May 6 - 9, 2001. 5. To host 2004 I&CPS Technical Conference. 6. To host 2005 Sections Congress. 7. To host 2006 IAS Annual Meeting.
