Southcon Director's Report Jim Howard, Southcon Chairman Presently the Southcon Board of Directors is investiagating avenues for the future of Southcon. One of these directions is based on the way Northcon is going, where the IEEE and possibly the ERA and others, are allowed a return based on the number of attendees, as well as booth sales, they provide. The show managment company is responsible for running, financing, and overseeing the entire show operation. This concept will be discussed at the next Southcon Board meeting, where will we have a presentation from a Show Managment Company about such a proposal. Southcon has also reserved space for the 2002 Southcon show in Orlando, FL. This allows the Board to determine the best direction for Southcon, while making plans for alternative venues, should the need arise. ======================================================================= To: Region 3 Committee / Excom From: James Beall Southcon Director and Treasurer. Additional Southcon Report In addition to the very fine report by Jim Howard you should have the following information. 1. The Southcon Board made a distribution from reserves to its owners, divided in proportion to ownership. In this case $50,000 went to Region 3, which the Region 3 treasurer set up in a special reserve account. The idea being to use earnings from this account to replace funds that used to come from Southcon. 2. The 2000 Southcon show held in Orlando is about to finally close its books. The surplus from this show is the smallest in history. At this time, there are no plans to distribute any more funds to the owners. Any distributions are dependent on the future of Southcon.
