Florida Council Report (October 2001)

The Florida Council had the fall meeting in Nova Southeastern
University, Fort Lauderdale on September 15, 2001. Council meeting was
held for the first time at Nova Southeastern University mainly due to
the efforts of Florida Council Vice-Chairman, Dr. Eric Ackerman. Eric
did a wonderful job in terms of arrangement and hospitality. Many
thanks go to Eric. Eight of the twelve chapters presented reports at
the meeting and many important issues related to various sections were
discussed. Director Elect, Jim Howard conducted section surveys
through a conference call from Tampa, as Jim had to be in Tampa due to
hurricane after effects. This survey reflected issues like Newsletter
expenses, membership problems, Professional Engineer requirement,
Continuing education credits etc. Most of the chapters are very active
with several meetings. Other discussion includes, Awards, Council
Bylaws, Southcon, and Professional activities.
