From: Parr, John Subject: Area 8 Report; Fall 2001 Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2001 15:02:22 -0500 Area 8 Report; Fall 2001 Evansville-Owensboro Section Chairman Paul Kuban reports that a full schedule of monthly meetings is planned for Fall and Winter. Three members of the section have been promoted to Senior Member status during the year. One concern for the section is that because the elected treasurer (who has performed well in the position for the past five years) is an Associate Member, IEEE headquarters is threatening to withhold the section's rebate until a "qualified" treasurer is installed. The Evansville-Owensboro Section is actively seeking ways to improve attendance at meetings and ways to attract qualified candidates for positions on the Section Executive Committee. The Paducah Subsection continues to be inactive. Letters will soon be sent to all IEEE members in the Paducah geographical area notifying them that the subsection will be dissolved during calendar year 2002 unless they take immediate steps to reactivate it. Don Hill reports that all is well in the Lexington Section. The Executive Committee met in August to develop plans for the following six months. They have drafted revised bylaws for the section and plan to submit them for approval soon. They are continuing to work on a proposed web page for the section, but have not yet posted it on the Internet. The University of Kentucky student chapter is active and is planning to participate in the Southeastcon 2002 competitions. The student chapter also plans to host an SPAC in the spring of 2002. Joe Cole reports that the Louisville Section will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the section on Saturday, October 13, 2001. The section plans a joint meeting with the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society (ISA) in November. As with Evansville-Owensboro, the Louisville Section is seeking ways to improve attendance at meetings and ways to attract qualified candidates for positions on the Section Executive Committee.
