AREA 9 IEEE JAMAICA SECTION To: Region 3 Executive Commitee Subject: Jamaica Section Report for R3 EXCOM Caucus October 15/26 - 28, 2001 Date: October 9, 2001 Introduction The IEEE Jamaica Section continues to build on the positive start established at the beginning of the Year 2001. The Nomination Committee for the Section was appointed and the process of nominating the Officers in order to develop the EXCOM for the Year 2002 is in place. Monthly Meetings Attendance at our monthly Section meetings by our IEEE members has given us some concern. We continue to plan stimulating presentations, which hopefully will improve the attendance record. Sectional Activities - 2001 Our planned yearlong programme of activities agreed on at the Jamaica Section January EXCOM meeting (retreat) has been implemented and to date we have 6 monthly presentations. In June, the section hosted a Cellular Forum which attracted over 100 participants from all over Jamaica. Other monthly activities planned for the rest of the year 2001 which include monthly presentations for October and November. In December, the Section will hold its annual social and it will take the form of an awards banquet. Jamaica Chapter of COMSOC - Activities The chapter held its planning meeting and has outlined its activities for the year. Two monthly presentations were hosted by COMSOC. A major activity was a Distinguished Lecture Tour (DLT), which was scheduled for September 26, 2001. Unfortunately, this event was postponed because of the recent terrorist activities in the United States. Student Activities - University of Technology (UTECH) Chapter The chapter has elected its EXCOM and has planned activities for the year.
