Region 3 Communications Committee
Status Report October 2001

The committee is focused primarily on increasing participation,
collaboration and cooperation of volunteers and members by
strengthening the communications capability and supporting
organization structure. The Communications Committee Charter as
presented in the Region 3 Operations Manual has been revised and is
pending review by the Strategic Planning Committee.

The proposed changes are intended to reinforce the supporting
organizational units...  Newsletter Support, Web Support, Electronic
Communications Coordination, E-Conferencing Coordination, Public
Information, and Archive Management.  The "flattening" of the
structure is intended to encourage a wider participation within all
organizational units in Region 3 including the local Chapters and
Sections as well as linkage with IEEE units outside of Region 3. The
committee has attempted to operate this year in somewhat the same mode
as we are proposing for the future ... at least with a flatter
organization structure and utilizing e-conferencing as the primary
method for accomplishing work. Overall I believe that these methods
have worked well.

The individual organizational unit reports (Newsletter Support, Web
Support, Electronic Communications Coordination, E-Conferencing
Coordination, Public Information, and Archive Management) should
provide detailed information regarding objectives, issues and
accomplishments.
