Region 3 e-Conferencing Committee
Status Report October 2001

The e-Conferencing Committee continues to promote the use of
e-conferencing both inside of Region 3 and to IEEE as a whole. Charles
Lord is assisting the IEEE Awards Board in utilizing e-conferencing to
perform much of their work. As with most organizations this eliminates
some of the travel expenses and maximizes the effectiveness of the
committee including the face to face meetings.

Dick Riddle has requested the Committee to design and document an
electronic voting process involving both asynchronous and synchronous
communications.  The development of the process has utilized
e-conferencing methods.

The committee continues to investigate other emerging e-conferencing
techniques that support a collaborative work environment. If anyone
wishes to join us, please contact me... your expertise is most
welcomed.

I wish to thank Dick Riddle for his direct involvement in the
development of e-conferencing over the past 2 years. Without his
support, ideas, guidance and leadership we would not have achieved the
level of implementation that exists today. We look forward to working
closely with Jim Howard (and Dick Riddle... you don't get off that
easily) in advancing e-conferencing and collaborative work methods to
the next level.
