From: "Twitchell, John" Subject: January Region 3 ARC Meeting To: d.green@ieee.org Cc: j.howard@ieee.org Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2002 17:36:54 -0500 The Region 3 ARC met on the morning of January 19, 2002, during the Region 3 EXCOM meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. Here is a report on our activity. 1. Outstanding Engineer Award - A proposal was made to the ARC to consider splitting the Outstanding Engineer Award in order to have one for computer/software accomplishments, and one of other electro-technology accomplishments. The committee determined the current Award presents the opportunity to recognize an outstanding engineer regardless of their area of specialty in the electro-technology industry, and no additional award was needed by Region 3 at this time. 2. Outstanding Service - Region 3's award emphasizes service to the region as a primary criteria. There appears to be a gap that does not provide the region an opportunity to recognize individual service to Sections/Chapters. Some Areas/Councils (Florida Council, for example) have a program that does this, but not all. Alternatives to filling this gap will be explored and a recommendation made to the EXCOM at the April meeting. 3. Region 3 Awards - The Teller's Committee, including Pat. Donohoe, Joey Duvall, and Vernon Powers, reviewed the voting by the ARC (Area/Council Chairs) for the major Region 3 Awards. The Teller's committee forwarded the following recommended slate to the EXCOM, which was accepted. Outstanding Engineer - Willy Albanes, Outstanding Engineering Educator - Atef Elsherbeni, and Outstanding Service - Arthur Greene. John R.
