IEEE Region 3 Area 3 Report 14 January 2002 I'd like to thank the past Area 3 Chair, Ed O'Brien for all his hard work. I can honestly say I wouldn't be the 2002 Chair without his dedication and persistence. ;) 2001 was a tough year for many of us, especially with the attacks of 9/11 and the struggles in the electrical, electronics, and communications sector. But the IEEE is moving forward with Region 3 leading the way in a lot of areas. I look forward to helping Area 3 participate in the progress. Director Howard has set a few goals common to all of the committees in Areas of Region 3, including e-conferencing, mentoring, and selecting a Vice-Chair. <---- Hint, hint. The Area 3 Vice Chair position is available and I'd be glad to hear from you. Don't be afraid to get involved. Its a good chance to meet people at the Region level and, perhaps, to re-kindle that IEEE spark. I look for our area to continue pushing the e-conf envelope. The sections have had some success working together and I know the new group of officers will continue that trend. Ed did a great job chairing Area 3 and I look forward to serving in 2002.
