As incoming Region 3 Educational Activities Chair in 2002, I would
like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Atef Elsherbeni for his
leadership as Region 3 Educational Activities Chair over the past two
years.  I have had the pleasure of working with Atef as the Region 3
Educational Activities Vice Chair and his service to the members of
IEEE is very much appreciated.

The Educational Activities Committee is currently in the process of
gathering nominations for the Region 3 Employer Professional
Development Award.  We are hoping to have at least two nominations
submitted.  Once all the information in the nomination packets is
compiled, these nomination packets will be sent to the Committee for
consideration.

Jim Howard, Region 3 Director, has requested that the Region 3
Executive Committee Chairs submit three goals for 2002.  The goals of
the Educational Activities Commitee are:

(1) Increase the utilization of the Region 3 Lending Library materials
    by members of Region 3.  Atef Elsherbeni notes that the recent
    utilization of the Lending Library has been very light.

(2) Develop ways for the Educational Activities Committee to provide
    enhanced support to Region 3 members in continuting education,
    especially in the area of professional development hours for PE
    license renewal.

(3) Ensure that companies in Region 3 are nominated for the Employer
    Professional Development Award in 2002.
