IEEE Region 3 GOLD Committee Report - January 2002 I wish to express my gratitude to the numerous Region 3 EXCOM members who have provided mentorship, guidance, and encouragement throughout my tenure as Student Representative. It has been an honor to represent the students of Region 3, and I hope to continue supporting the mission and vision of the Institute as I prepare to make the transition to GOLD Representative. I intend to support IEEE members who are Graduates Of the Last Decade across Region 3, by providing the following: - Education to section leadership about GOLD, and assistance with Affinity Group formation and continuity. - Support to members facing the transition from student membership to (professional) membership grade by promoting 'Professional Development' and encouraging GOLD activity participation. - Efforts to work closely with the Region 3 PACE Committee and with Section/Chapter PACE Chairs. Also, continuing to work with the Region 3 Student Activities Committee and interacting directly with student members as frequently as possible. - Encouragement and support for GOLD activities and GOLD member participation at Region-sponsored and Region-supported events - particularly SoutheastCon and Sections Congress. - Providing the Region EXCOM with information about local GOLD activities within the region. In addition, I have graciously accepted an appointment to serve on the RAB GOLD Committee for 2002. I am confident this opportunity to work with leaders (GOLD and non-GOLD alike) from around the Institute will enrich my abilities to fulfill the role of supporting R3 GOLD more effectively. The challenges and growing pains faced by recent graduates are changing as dynamically as the world around all of us seems to be. Additional Goals and Objectives for the coming year will be further defined as the needs of the membership this committee serves are more closely assessed. I look forward to a continued, productive working relationship with the members and EXCOM of Region 3. Respectfully Submitted, Joey A. Duvall GOLD Committee Chair
