Dear Sir,


In recent years the Oak Ridge and East Tennessee Sections of IEEE have
been holding joint meetings and the officers have likewise been meeting
together to ease individual time expenditure and duplication of effort.
We believe that putting the two sections together officially will
increase the number of active people in a single unit and make it easier
to train and retain people for the continued viability of the local
activities that will result.  The membership is relatively homogeneous
with people who work for the three major regional employers distributed
across both organizations.  From the IEEE point of view, the annual
section payout will be reduced.


The following people represent the entire active officer corps, have
been a part of the discussion and agree that this action is in the best
interests of the members of the two sections:

Please feel free to call any or all of us if you would like our
individual perspectives on this action.  As soon as we know that this is
approved by you and the RAB we will form a nominating committee and hold
a combined election.  With regard to names, I believe the unanimous
choice is East Tennessee Section as it will accurately reflect the
regional flavor of the new organization.
