Subj: Re: Final Report - Special Review Cmte Rpt - Membership Dev Cmte Date: 11/28/01 3:36:21 PM Eastern Standard Time From: Butch Shadwell First let me say that the committee has done a remarkable job of trying to properly evaluate such a broad period of activity. Their efforts are truly appreciated by me and I'm sure will also be invaluable to my successor. Unfortunately, in the period since I assumed the chair of the R3 MDC, my time has been dominated by events beyond my control. Every time I have felt I would finally be able to implement some of the objectives I had set for myself, circumstances changed to make it impossible. I hope the Excom has found my last report on these objectives to be valuable. 1. Finding: The Region 3 Director's Goals and Objectives (G&O's) for the Membership Development Committee and the Committee Chair's self-imposed G&O's lack check-points and time-lines which can be used to measure the committee's performance versus the established G&O's. Recommendation: Include Estimated Completion Dates at a minimum and time-lines for all committee G&O's. The MDC should report on measurable/tangible results rather than use general statements. * Response: This recommendation is a good one and should be implemented in the future. 2. Finding: The MDC's Charter needs to be updated and brought in-lline with the committee's actual operation. Recommendation(s): Provide Charter inputs to the SPC for inclusion into the Region 3 Operations Manual. * Response: This recommendation is a good one and should be implemented in the future. I will endeavor to review the operations manual during the next week, and offer recommendations. 3. Finding: Committee Reports to the Excom & Region Committee should be different than R-3 Newsletter articles. Most reports and articles stored in the Region 3 History Archives (BBS) and Newsletters contained reduntant information. Recommendation(s): The Chair and or Vice Chair should view the opportunity to write an article or submit a report as an additional mechanism to promote membership to different audiences. * Response: This recommendation is a good one and should be implemented in the future. I have reviewed the archive information also, and found this to be the case. I would suggest that if submissions to each of these, the newsletter and region reports, seem inappropriately redundant, then perhaps we need specific guidelines for each kind of report in the Operations Manual. I have considered it a privilege to serve at the region level since I first became the Florida Council Chair. Being able to interact on a personal and professional level with the fine volunteers in Region 3 has been it's own reward. I regret the necessity of my withdrawing from activity with the R3 Excom. Thank you for the opportunity to respond to these fine proposals. Sincerely, Butch Shadwell, R3 MDC Chair (2000-1)
