Report SoutheastCon Special Project Charles Lord, project leader At the November 2001 R3 Excom, a special project was approved and funded to provide development and support for the SoutheastCon conference. The text of the proposal is available at https://ewh.ieee.org/reg/3/excom/meetings/2001-10/specproj.txt Status: The training has not been scheduled, particularly with the short notice of the January Excom meeting. It is still intended to take place before the 2002 SoutheastCon in Columbia. The registration support part of this project is underway. I have requested the donation of most of the computer equipment that is needed for the on-site registration from a client at work, who is about to get rid of a number of IBM Thinkpads. I have ordered one Thinkpad (the same model) from IBM's refurbishing division here in NC to develop and test the registration software before the other computers arrive (mid to late February). I have a source of alternative computers if the donations do not occur. The other non-recurring registration expense that will be covered by this project is the purchase of any registration software needed for on-site. This is still being investigated and may be licensed / leased on a yearly basis rather than purchased. If that is the case, it will be charged to the SoutheastCon 2002 conference rather than this project. -- Charles J. Lord, PE, CQE c.j.lord@ieee.org
