IEEE - Florida West Coast Section Section Report Activities Ending December 2001 Section 2001/2002 Officers: Chairman - Quang Tang, q.tang@ieee.org Vice Chairman - James Beall, j.beall@ieee.org Secretary - Jules Joslow, jjoslowemi@aol.com Treasurer - John Conrad, john.conrad@ieee.org Section Website - https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/floridawc/ Activities: Florida West Coast Section has shown a tremendous success for year 2001 with the following activities: * Successfully hosted IEEE Power Engineering Society Substation Committee Annual Meeting in Tampa, * Held nine (9) Section Meetings, * Held thirty one (33) Chapters Meetings and seminars, * Held one (1) Forum for Combined Industry, Government, and Education, * Held one (1) Major Banquet with other local Engineering Societies - Engineers Week Banquet, * Strong Life Member Chapter with five meetings, * Model for Teacher In-Service Series Program with six programs presented to teachers, * FWCS has been selected to host the IEEE Sections Congress 2005, * Distributed Section Newsletters electronically to members with over 1,700 email addresses in database, * One member, Dr. Robert Ashley, received Region 3 Outstanding Service Award, * FWCS nominated and won the first IEEE Educational Activities Board Pre-College Educator Award, * FWCS has submitted nominations for both Florida Council and Region 3 Awards (Outstanding Service, Educator, and Engineer of the Year). Major accomplishments are IEEE PES Substation Committee Annual Meeting, Region 3 Outstanding Service Award, IEEE EAB Pre-College Educator Award, Teacher In-Service Series, very strong Life Member Chapter, Sections Congress 2005, and electronics newsletters to members. The Section has made approximately three thousands dollars in surplus from the PES Substation Committee Annual Meeting. Section's Teacher In-Service Series Program has been the model for national. Programs and materials from the Section have been utilized in Headquarters' In-service Program Section Champion Training. Members with email addresses have been received electronics newsletters a week prior to receiving the hard copies. Outstanding Life Member Chapter with five meetings for the year. And yet, Sections Congress 2005 is coming to Tampa. Goals: * To continue supporting Teacher In-Service Series Program. * To elevate 40 Senior Members in year 2002. * Each Chapter will hold at least one seminar that provides Continued Education Units (CEU) to members. This goal will help our PE members maintaining their certification. * Committed to host Southcon2003 * Committed to host 2004 I&CPS Technical Conference. * Committed to host 2005 Sections Congress. * Committed to host 2006 IAS Annual Meeting.
