To: IEEE Region 3 Sections, Region 3 Excom Subject: IEEE Region 3 Leadership Development Report Plans are underway for two informative sessions at SoutheastCon 2002, just over a week away in Columbia. First, there will be a workshop for section leaders to help them plan and carry out successful conferences in their sections. This will include hosting SoutheastCon, hosting technical society conferences, or "growing your own." This workshop is Friday, April 5, from 1-5 PM. No registration is required but PLEASE let me know you are coming so I can have materials for you. This is a unique opportunity that you should take advantage of! The second workshop will be on Saturday morning. We will kick off at 8AM with a talk by Jim Howard, Region 3 Director. Director Howard will set the goals for the day and go over the expectations. Then from 8:30-10:30 we will have a comprehensive leadership workshop for all attendees. This will cover both the basics and some higher-level concepts, and will give a taste of the upcoming workshops and retreats that areas and councils will be able to offer in the future. Whether you are an "old salt" in the IEEE or just getting your feet wet, there will be something for you. For those who are interested, we are developing this presentation through internet collaboration, one of the tools that will be taught in this workshop. You can view (or even participate!) in this project at the website at https://ie3col.eng.uab.edu/twiki/bin/view/R3econf/AprilEconfTrain Plans for 2002: * Get Area / Council chairs involved in LD efforts * Organize and carry out 1-2 workshops or retreats * Organize and populate the R3 LD website with materials * Carry out LD training at SoutheastCon Area / Council leaders are reminded that I need a representative from each area to work with me on coordinating training for their volunteer leadership.
