To: Region 3 Executive Committee, Region 3 Sections From: Lee Stogner, Region 3 Membership Development Chair Subject: Membership Development Report Date: 3-25-02 I recently attended the IEEE 2002 Membership Development Retreat. At that retreat I learned that the overall status of IEEE membership is "okay". We are continuing to attract new members both in the US and especially overseas. In fact, the overseas growth is such that in just a few years, the number of members in Regions 7-10 will match that of Regions 1-6. This is important in that IEEE is truly becoming an international organization. The sad fact is that while we are growing, we are also losing significant numbers because members don't renew or students graduate and move on without becoming a full member. If we could just stop this erosion, our real numbers could grow by tens of thousands each year. This growth would not only be in the international Regions but also here at home. The benefits of such growth would come in improved services and a bigger voice in the careers of all EE's. I need your help in improving our numbers here in Region 3. First, I need every Section to find that local volunteer with the time and motivation to help me with this important task. If you don't have your Section MD Chair, let me know if I can help. If not, your Section Chair will automatically assume this role. Second, I have the "Arrears Report" that identifies who at the end of 2001 has not renewed their membership for 2002. I will be forwarding this report out to you. Please review the list and contact those members that might need just a little encouragement from you to stay a part of IEEE. Third, we will have a MD meeting during Southeastcon. Please participate in the meeting and let me know what we can do together to grow the membership in Region 3.
