To: Region 3 ExCom Fr: Marilene Guardia-Baker, South Carolina Council (Area 7) Sb: Mid Year Council report Dt: 14 September 2002 The SC Council has been working on updating the bylaws and learning how to conduct e-meetings (thanks to the help of Lee Stogner, Mark Stokes and David Green). Two e-meetings have taken place this year (June and August) with much success. Council members and guests really enjoy the ease and comfort of attending the meetings while at home, or even hotel rooms for those of us who travel frequently with the job. Our thanks to the Region 3 ExCom for spearheading this effort. R3 Director, Director-Elect, Secretary and other ExCom members joined us in our August meeting as well, giving the meeting a real R3 "flavor". Their participation meant much to our Council. Council information and meeting minutes can be found at https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/south_carolina_council/index.html The SC Council is also working at creating state-wide Technical Chapters, since no single Section has the sufficient amount of interested members to create one on its own. Volunteers are being sought and signatures are being collected. The Chapters will be on Power and Computer Engineering. John Montague, Chair Columbia Section, is heading this effort. All four SC Sections are gearing up for the Fall, with a line up of meetings and attendance to Sections Congress. Our last meeting of the year will be a face to face meeting on November 3 in Columbia, SC. Allen Thomas, SC Council Immediate Past Chair, was elected Secretary of the South Carolina Council of Engineers and Land Surveyors (SCCELS). IEEE is one of the several engineering organizations represented in this Council. Congratulations, Allen! We would also like to congratulate Council member and Webmaster (and Chair advisor and many other good titles), Lee Stogner, in his nomination to IEEE-USA Member-At-Large, 2003-2004. Best of luck in the elections, Lee!! We are looking forward to supporting you in your new role. Respectfully submitted, Marilene Guardia-Baker IEEE SC Council (Area 7) Chair
