Region 3 Nominations and Appointments Committee Mid-Year Report - 
 
The following members were appointed to the Region 3 N & A Committee by
Jim Howard, Region 3 Director (2002-2003):

Dick Riddle Chair (Past Director 2000-2001)
Dale Caston  (Past Director 1998-1999)
Jim Beall  (Past Director 1996-1997)
 

The 2002 goals for the R3 N&A Committee as assigned by the Region 3
Director are as follows:
 
 Nominations and Appointments Goals
  * Provide a list of possible candidates for Region Committees
  * Identify key members within the Region for future Regional 
    Committees.
  * Assist Committees with selection of Vice-Chairs
  * Work with Director-Elect to begin to form his Excom.
  
The following is a summary of the progress toward meeting these goals
and in addition progress made in pursuit of the N&A Charter and Task
Schedule as provided in the Region 3 Bylaws and Operations Manual.
 
On January 30, 2002, a Call for Nominations - Region 3
Delegate/Director-Elect (2004-2005) was drafted and approved by the R3
N&A Committee.
 
On February 4, 2002, Director Howard approved the "Call for
Nominations" and Secretary Green sent it to the Region 3 Committee and
ExCom with a request that they respond by no later than March 15,
2002.
 
On April 6, 2002, the N&A Committee met at SoutheastCon 2002 and
reviewed the qualifications for those candidates who had been
nominated.  Two candidates were selected by the committee to be placed
on the 2003 IEEE Election Ballot.  At the ExCom meeting on April 6,
2002 during the Executive Session a motion was made by the N&A
Committee that Don Hill and George McClure be placed on the ballot as
candidates for Region 3 Delegate/Director-Elect for 2004-2005.  The
motion was unanimously approved.
 
On April 7, 2002, at the Region 3 meeting a motion was made on behalf
of the N&A Committee that Don Hill and George McClure be placed on the
ballot as candidates for Region 3 Delegate/Director-Elect for 2004-
2005.  The motion was approved.  

Remaining Action: the Region Director will formally submit the
approved candidate names to IEEE Corporate Headquarters by no later
than February 15, 2003.
 
The appointment of Dr. Belur V. Dasarathy as Vice Chair to one of the
respective committees was discussed with John Twitchell, Chair of the
Region 3 Awards & Recognition Committee and Sean Haynes, Chair of the
Region 3 Professional Activities Operations Committee.  Both John and
Sean expressed an interest in having Belur as a Vice Chair.  Dr.
Dasarathy informed me that he felt that his background and experience
better qualified him as Vice Chair of PAOC.  On April 29, 2002, I
informed Dr. Dasarathy that he had been appointed as Vice Chair of
PAOC and that Sean Haynes would be in touch with him soon to discuss
in more detail his duties and how best to come up to speed with the
operation of that committee.
 
The goals for the Region 3 Nominations and Appointments Committee are
on-going and are accomplished as needed when the committee is notified
that assistance is required.
