To: Region 3 Committee / ExCom Subject: South Carolina Council Report to Region 3 From: Marilene Baker Date: Mon Mar 24, 2003 1:54:18 PM US/Central South Carolina Council Report - March '03 1. The Council has met once this year, via e-conference, on January 15. Issues raised during this meeting included reports due to HQ by February, the selection of a new Treasurer, recovery of bank/treasury notes from past Treasurer and completion of the L-50 report, among others. These issues are still open, mostly due to the lack of available time I have to work on it. John Montague, Jr. Past Chair of the Columbia Section graciously volunteered to become interim Treasurer until a permanent one from the Coastal Section is found. Lee Stogner volunteered to represent the Council as PACE rep during the Seattle meeting, but a permanent PACE rep is needed. No officers of the Council will be able to travel to Jamaica. 2. The Council voted on financially supporting the trip for one student to present a paper at Southeastcon. The student is the winner of the Piedmont Section's Paper contest held this year. The planned statewide paper competition was cancelled due to lack of participation from other Sections. 3. Next meeting will be a face-to-face meeting in Columbia, SC on Sunday May 4 at 4:30 pm. Dick Riddle has mentioned he may be participating as well. Other meetings will be held via e-conference, as needed, and the last meeting of the year will be held around November, again face-to-face. 4. The Proposed bylaws were submitted for approval to HQ. Waiting for news on their acceptance. 5. Some Sections held meetings celebrating National Engineers Week along with other engineering societies. 6. All Sections had planned to attend Southeastcon, the situation may have changed after last week. 7. Attended PACE e-conference on February 27. 8. Planning to attend the R-3 e-conferences prior to Southeastcon. Respectfully submitted, Marilene Guardia-Baker SC Council Chair https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/south_carolina_council/index.html
