Director-Elect Goals & Objectives My goals and objectives for 2003 are posted under the Officer Reports on the Region 3 Meeting Agenda. In addition to projects and IEEE Board of Directors assignments, they include assisting and supporting the Region 3 Director in the general supervision and internal management of the affairs of Region 3, and meeting with Area/Council Chairs and Standing Committee Chairs to ensure maximum effectiveness of Sections, Chapters and Student Branches in serving the Region's membership. Region 3 Section Survey We conducted a survey of Region 3 Section leaders last year prior to and during the Region meeting. Feedback from the survey formed a part of the issue development process for Region 3's input to the Sections Congress 2002 Recommendations voted on by SC 2002 Delegates. A summary of the survey results is posted under Section/Chapter Coordination on the Information Agenda. I will bring copies of the survey to SoutheastCon. Your ideas, recommendations, suggestions, phone calls and emails would be appreciated (w.harrison@ieee.org or telephone 404-378-5553). Ad Hoc Committee of the Region 3 Strategic Planning Committee This ad hoc group met in Atlanta on February 22-23. A preliminary report to the Region 3 ExCom and Region 3 Committee is posted on the Region Committee Agenda and will be presented at SoutheastCon 2003. After considering comments and feedback from the Region Committee and the Region 3 ExCom, we will develop recommendations for approval before the end of 2003. Region 3 Corporate Communications In 2002, the IEEE Regional Activities Industry Relations Committee requested each region to appoint an Industry Relations Representative. I currently hold that position. I chair, support and champion the Region 3 Corporate Communications (Industry Relations) Ad Hoc Committee. My report on Industry Relations is posted as the Corporate Communications Ad Hoc Committee Report. We will be looking for a volunteer to lead the Industry Relations activities for Region 3. Please let me know if you are interested in supporting or leading the Region's Industry Relations Activities. I worked with the Atlanta Section to establish a Director of Industry Relations position. Mani Chawla has taken up the challenge and is making great strides in setting up a Section/Chapter Industry Relations program. Mani coordinated the IEEE's participation in a highly successful Association Fair at Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems on March 13th. Local industry executives are being asked to serve on an Industry Relations Board to advise and support the Section's work. Bill Harrison Director-Elect
