To: Region 3 Committee / ExCom From: Charles J. Lord, Leadership Development Chair Subject: Leadership Development Report (Updated) 3-26-03 Welcome all new volunteer leaders in Region 3 and all who are taking on new challenges. You are not alone, as we have many resources to help you grow and excel as a leader. Please feel free to call on me at the email address below to help your section, area, council, or committee with training. I can provide anything from a bare-bones 2 hour session to a full weekend leadership development retreat (those are fun!). I am already planning for training for the Virginia Council and Memphis Section; please contact me soon if you would like a fall training session or retreat. Plans are underway for two informative training sessions at SoutheastCon 2003 in Ocho Rios: There will be a session on Saturday morning 10:30 - 12:25 in the Portland A room that will go over some of the basics of IEEE leadership and resources. We will also go over new changes in how to do business in the IEEE and some new resources that you may not know about. This session is open to all and will have material of interest to both new volunteers and "old hands" alike. I will also be talking about resources that Region 3 has to offer for leadership training at the section/chapter and area/council levels. I ask that all Area and Council chairs either attend or send a representative -- after all, you are on this committee! There will be a second session on Sunday afternoon 4-6 PM for those who will not be leaving until late Sunday or later. This I am calling "nuts and bolts" and will be a more in-depth training session aimed at the newer volunteer or the one that is entering a new (and perhaps unfamiliar) role. Expect a hands-on, participatory, fun afternoon! Charles J. Lord, P.E., CQMgr c.j.lord@ieee.org
