IEEE REGION 3 AREA 9 REPORT TO REGION 3 EXCOM JULY, 2003 The Jamaica Section continues to provide leadership in the area of electrical, electronics and computer engineering. The Section is striving to become the most outstanding in the Region. A schedule of general meetings held for the year is shown in Table I. The EXCOM of the Section meets and plan activities for each upcoming monthly general meeting. For more details, please visit the IEEE Jamaica Section Website at https://www.ewh.ieee.org/r3/jamaica. The goals of the section as established at the beginning of the year were as follows: 1. Hold a successful SoutheastCon2003 2. Increasing membership attendance and participation in meetings. 3. Presenting more diversified technical presentations. 4. Increasing student participation in SoutheastCon by 50% 5. Sending Delegates to Sections Congress 2002 and PACE Activities Membership Attendance at Meetings. This objective was not fully met since attendance at meetings was somewhat similar to previous years with an average of 15 members in attendance. The members that attended participated effectively in the activities. Technical Presentations: The Jamaica Section made a deliberate effort to present a wide range of topics to satisfy objective 2. The diversity of topics presented are outlined in Table 1. Student Branches: Both student branches, The University of the West Indies and the University of Technology, Jamaica remains committed to the ideals of the IEEE. The UTech branch has just completed the implementation of SoutheastCon 2003. This student branch was commended on several occasion for their effective involvement and implementation of SoutheastCon2003. Students are making preparation for their involvement in SoutheastCon2004. Communications Society Chapter The Communications Society Chapter (ComSoc) of the IEEE Jamaica Section continue to make their contribution to the development of members in Area 9.
