From: Jim Howard To: R3 ExCom 14 & 16 July 2003 Subject: Region 3 Director Over the last 18 months it has been my pleasure to serve as your elected IEEE Delegate/Director. For the support they have shown me over the last 18 months, and in fact over my entire volunteer time within the Region, I would like to thank Dick Riddle, the Past Region 3 Director, Bill Harrison, the Director-Elect, Charles Hickman, the Region 3 Treasurer, and our Secretary Dave Green, along with the entire Region 3 Excom. During my many years of service to IEEE, I have had the privilege of having the support of all the Region 3 members, and I sincerely appreciate it and look forward to your continued support. As your Director, I serve on the following IEEE Boards and Committees representing you, the member: IEEE Board of Directors (BOD) IEEE Regional Activities Board (RAB) IEEE-USA Board of Directors IEEE Audit Committee (Chairing this Committee) IEEE RAB Section & Chapter Support Committee (SectionÕs Congress 2005 Steering Committee Chair) IEEE PresidentÕs Ad Hoc Committee on ÒTrustÓ We recently completed an IEEE Board of Directors meeting here in Region 3. It was held in Nashville, TN and we were pleased to have the Tennessee Council join us and hold a meeting during this Board of Directors meeting. We will also be holding the first Board of Directors meeting next year in Region 3, in Savannah. ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR OUR REGION in 2003: - We had a very successful SoutheastCon 2003 in Jamaica. - 100% of our Sections have filed their 2002 reports. - 99% of our Sections have Signatures Cards on file for all accounts with IEEE Headquarters. - We have planned a Regional Meeting this coming November in Atlanta. - Several Sections have held very successful conferences. - We are starting new communications with our Sections, Chapters, and Student Branches utilizing newsletters and email updates. And finally, your Director-Elect, Bill Harrison, and I have been working closely together to give the Region a head start for 2004 during the last six month of my term and to allow for a very smooth transition into 2004. I strongly believe all members of the Region will benefit from our working together during this period, and know you will see the results of this teamwork well into the future. I am very excited about the new communications we have planned for the Region and I hope each and every Region 3 Excom members, as well as the Sections, utilize these new methods to share what is happening within and outside our Region. Be looking for the first release of these new communications before the end of the month. And finally, I look forward to chatting with you at the Excom Meeting Monday and Wednesday night (and at the end of September) and to seeing you at the upcoming November Regional Meeting in Atlanta in November.
