R3 Membership Development Report - July 13, 2003


Region 3,

Since the last report, IEEE has released data showing how Membership
Development growth in Regions 1-6 has become more of a challenge.  I
would like to encourage all Sections in Region 3 to make Membership
Development one of your key goals for the rest of 2003.  There are a
number of programs available to help Sections with their membership
campaign.  A good reference for these programs can be found at,

In addition, IEEE has provided a page full of all of the key

To improve communications about Membership Development, we are now
hosting a monthly electronic conference for Section Membership
Development Chairs and interested volunteers.  The next electronic
conference will take place on July 28 at 8:30 PM EST.  Please let me
know if you will be joining the conference and I will include you on
the distribution list.

A key Membership Development goal for 2003 is the elevation of members
to Senior Member.  I would like to challenge all Sections to find
those deserving members and encourage them to fill out the new on-line
forms and begin the process.  You can even bring a laptop to Section
Meetings and host an activity where members can expedite the process
together as a team.  Again more information about the Senior Member

We have also developed a set of 2003 Goals and Objectives for
Membership Development. Please review the attached list and let me
know what you want to help with or what I have missed.

1 - Develop Student Transition Program
2 - Promote Senior Membership Upgrades
3 - Communicate to the R3 MD team with regular e-conf's
4 - Membership Development Representative in every Section / Council
5 - Work with Section Representatives to contact members in arrears
6 - Develop Membership "Values" Kit
7 - Work with the Public Information Committee to increase R3
    awareness of IEEE
