Region 3 RSAC Summer Report (7/03) Bruce Walcott, RSAC Patricia Davis, RSR Progress on 2003 Goals At the Region 3 Meeting in November in Knoxville, Tennessee, RSAC had two very productive strategic planning sessions. Out of these sessions came the following goals and objectives for SAC over the coming 2003 calendar year: Goal 1: Complete the 2002 RSAC goal of "maximizing" Southeastcon 2003 participation while "minimizing" the logistical problems of student travel Progress as of 7/03: According to Mark Stokes, we had officially 196 students registered for Southeastcon 2003 plus about 20 branch counselors from 32 separate schools--many of them making their first appearance at an IEEE Southeastcon. This level of participation could not have been accomplished if it were not for the commitment and support of Region 3 local professional sections in providing sponsorship for so many students to come to Jamaica. We are encouraging all Region 3 student branches who have received any local support to attend a section meeting and thank the professionals as well as give them a summary of your experiences in Jamaica. It is hoped that this unprecedented demonstration of student branch support will foster even greater student/professional interaction in the future. Goal 2: Increase Branch Reporting from current rate of 20% to 25% by end of 2003 and address other issues of branch continuity and Post-Southeastcon MIA Syndrome: Progress as of 7/03: The importance of reporting was emphasized in the Student Branch Chairs meeting as lead by our Region 3 RSR, Trish Davis, on Sunday, April 6th as well as in the Branch Counselors meeting. An announcement was also broadcast to the student branches in May. Laura Durrett is helping to streamline the reporting process at headquarters in terms of enabling on-line reporting for all student branches. Lastly, Eric Ackermann is putting together a one-stop shopping web site with all the reporting forms required for the student branches. In terms of revitalizing schools which have hosted Southeastcon in the past and have seen a significant drop in student activity and participation in following years, RSAC is happy to report that every school that hosted a Southeastcon since 1996 had at least one representative at Southeastcon 2003. Goal 3: In concert with upcoming RSAC review, assess effectiveness of current "traditional" student activities. Progress as of 7/03: The RSAC is also chair of the IEEE SAC Strategic Planning Committee which is also undergoing a review this year as well. The first draft of the strategic plan has been submitted and is now undergoing review.
